Wu Shuyong

Wu Shuyong, inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Jingdezhen traditional inlay craftsmanship
Wu Shuyong, an inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of ceramic inlay, is one of the few craftsmen in Jingdezhen capable of making ceramic inlay pieces, and also one of the craftsmen featured in a documentary about traditional Jingdezhen porcelain-making techniques. Wu Shuyong began learning porcelain-making from his father, Wu Hesheng, in 1977. The initial learning process was extremely arduous. Because of its complexity, handmade ceramic inlay cannot be mass-produced and is time-consuming; most people are unfamiliar with this craft. Due to changing times, the craft faces extinction. Wu Shuyong, a ceramic inlay craftsman, has dedicated himself to this craft, working tirelessly in the workshop. Wu Shuyong said, "We must pass on the culture; it would be a pity if it were lost. Making good products brings me joy. Many industries have been phased out, but we can make ceramics as a way to maintain health and well-being, as a form of spiritual life."
