Small-leaf sandalwood rattan woven ruyi scroll plate

Small-leaf sandalwood rattan woven ruyi scroll plate
Vessel Type: Du Cheng Pan
Artist: dayatang
Material: Small-leaf sandalwood
Specifications : Length : 42cm, Width : 19cm, Overall height : 5cm
This small purple jadeite tray is exquisitely crafted, rectangular in shape with four legs, and regularly shaped. It features ruyi-patterned scrollwork on all four sides, the decoration extending to the legs. A shallow relief of stylized dragon motifs adorns the base, and the corners are fitted with woven rattan. The rattan core is finely and evenly textured, allowing moisture to dissipate and keeping the contents dry. A strap at the bottom supports the rattan mat to prevent warping. The entire piece exudes a refined scholarly air and a timeless charm.
An ancient saying goes, "To discard a worn-out brush and inkstone is to neglect one's duty as a scholar." This means that scholars must keep their writing implements neat and orderly. After the Ming Dynasty, the functions of writing implements became increasingly intricate and refined. A writing tray is convenient for holding writing implements, keeps them neat and clean, and also carries the connotation of cleansing oneself and cultivating virtue, embodying a rich humanistic spirit.
