The tea box is made of four pieces of black lacquer, decorated with peony and lotus scroll patterns using the gold maki-e technique, and the interior is lacquered in vermilion. The combination of black and gold is brilliant and beautiful.
The tea pavilion, with its lower platform, is also decorated with gold-painted peonies and lotus scrolls, creating a strong sense of ceremony. All four sides of the tea pavilion are carved into the shape of begonias to allow light to pass through, and the corners are polished to a smooth finish.
