Heian Shōhiko Vermilion and Gold Lacquerware <br />Shōhiko was founded in 166 AD (the first year of the Kanbun era in the Edo period). It is a renowned Kyoto lacquerware shop famous for its maki-e (maki-e) lacquerware, and remains a traditional establishment that continues to this day. Starting as an ivory shop, it embarked on its lacquerware journey and is one of the only two major brands supplying lacquerware to the Japanese Imperial Household. It is a traditional craft passed down through generations and is also considered a national traditional craft. This Heian Shōhiko vermilion and gold lacquerware tea caddy is double-layered with a lid, gold on the outside and red on the inside; the tea tray has a vermilion lacquer exterior and a gold interior, the two colors complementing each other beautifully.
The covered bowl is made of gorgeous seppuku ware, with a bright and beautiful combination of blue and gold, and lively plum blossom patterns as embellishments.
