Volume: Approx. 180 ml Weight: Approx. 202 g
This copper-plated silver Pan teapot has a flattened persimmon-shaped body (imitating a drum), hence the name "Short Pan". The flattened, round body and rounded belly are symmetrical, with the spout and handle seamlessly integrated, creating a unified and dignified appearance. The curves of the teapot are powerful and expressive, the entire piece resembling a perfect piece of jade. The copper finish is excellent, making it a prized possession for tea connoisseurs.
Pan Shicheng (1804-1873), courtesy name Deyu, was a native of Fujian but lived in Guangzhou. He was a renowned official and wealthy merchant in the late Qing Dynasty. Pan had a particular fondness for Yixing teapots, ranging in size from 200cc to 300cc. He personally selected teapot designs and created his own style, establishing a fixed mark on the lid. He habitually placed his mark on the bottom of the teapot, leaving it unmarked elsewhere. All his marks were in relief seal script, bearing the character "Pan". Because Pan's custom-made Yixing teapots were perfect for tea tasting and handling, they became widely known, and this style became known as the "Pan teapot." The reason Pan teapots became elegant objects for scholars and literati was primarily due to the versatility of the Yixing teapot. It allowed scholars and celebrities to enjoy tea while simultaneously appreciating and writing, composing poems, painting, and commenting, making it a fashionable pursuit of the time.
