"Porcelain and stone are both elegant objects, but they are not solid and cannot last long. Silver is the purest material, but it is too extravagant."
—Lu Yu, *The Classic of Tea* (Tang Dynasty)
The teapot and serving cup are a set, both forged from pure silver, silvery white like frost, with tapering shoulders and rounded bellies. The two are similar in shape. The serving cup has an open mouth and a wide spout, while the teapot has a top hat-shaped flat lid. The handles are decorated with vermilion woven bamboo strips, which also prevents the tea from being too hot to handle.
Hong Jike (1971b.), a Bai ethnic minority, learned the traditional crafts of gold, silver, and copper handicrafts from his father from a young age. He is a state-level inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of silver forging and a master of arts and crafts in Yunnan Province.
