Taotie Pot Sale price$4,677

Made by Li Fuming, inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of silver forging techniques, from Dayatang. Capacity: approx. 1000 ml; Weight: approx. 600 g.

The shape is derived from ancient pottery jars, with a short and constricted spout. The handle and flat lid are also low and flat, adding to the restrained and simple charm. Like a small-frame Tai Chi, it is unassuming and restrained, a kind of simple and unadorned beauty.

The body of the pot is engraved with a Taotie relief along the center line. The Taotie pattern has been passed down for thousands of years and was popular from the Shang Dynasty to the early Western Zhou Dynasty.

The "Taotie" is highly decorative and is often used as the main pattern on artifacts. During the Shang and Zhou dynasties, the "Taotie" pattern on bronze artifacts was used to express the "mysterious majesty" of royal power. The pattern conveys majesty, will, honor and hope.
A gold-plated teapot with a red coral base, its handle woven from old vines.
